Charles Edward “Chuck” Soldner, age 75, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 8:15 A.M. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.  He was born on February 1, 1941 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Ervin W. “E.W.” and Georgia W. (Dillon) Soldner.  He married Carolyn G. (Schults) Davis in 1978 in Kinmundy, Illinois, and they were later divorced.

Mr. Soldner is survived by his son, Nicholas Charles Soldner and wife Ran Hu of Mountain View, California, Illinois, step-daughters, Vickie Patterson and husband Steve of St. Louis, Missouri and Chelle Reim and husband Gary of Salem, Illinois, granddaughter, Adelynn Soldner, four step-grandchildren, Olivia Reim, Sophia Finckbone, Rachel Hahn and Chloe Rezba and six step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Soldner was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Soldner was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Orthodox Catholic Church in Centralia, Illinois. He was a member of the board of the Orthodox Catholic community, where he served 2 years as president until March 1, 2016.  Mr. Soldner was a member of the Deacon Formation Program, which he completed just prior to becoming ill.  He was a key supporter of the community’s ministry and outreached to those seeking recovery from alcohol and drug abuse.  In addition to co-ordinating the weekly meetings held in the Community meeting room in the monastery, he was involved in the Alcoholics Anonymous Program at St. Mary’s Hospital for 17 years and director of the Dry Dock Club.  Mr. Soldner was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Vietnam Conflict from November 22, 1963 until November 21, 1965.  He loved listening to jazz music and reading books about World War 1 and World War II.  He enjoyed his cigars and watching James Bond movies.

Mr. Soldner was a property manager for Gupta Properties in Centralia, Illinois for 17 years.  Earlier in life, he was an accomplished insurance agent and automobile salesman for Auffenberg Car Dealership in Fairview Heights, Illinois.  He lived in Centralia, Illinois for 17 years, and formerly lived in Salem, Illinois.

A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Father Ken Seifert officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Kinmundy, Illinois, with military honors accorded by the Centralia American Legion Post # 446 and V.F.W. Post # 2055.  Friends may call from 9:00 until the time of services at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Orthodox Catholic Church in Centralia, Illinois and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences or share memories with Mr. Soldners' family at www.moranfuneralhome.net or on Facebook.
