Curtiss Reed Hails, age 68, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at his home in Centralia, Illinois with his family by his side.  He was born April 13, 1948 in Joliet, Illinois, the son of Dale and Virginia (Kemp) Hails.  He married Shelby Crabtree on June 20, 1998 in Marion County, Illinois and she survives him in Centralia, Illinois.   

In addition to his wife of 18 years, Mr. Hails is survived by his son, Charles Hamburg of Centralia, Illinois, daughter, Angie Mullens and husband Corey of Centralia, Illinois, grandchildren, Anthony McElroy and Shianne Maltman, Brandon Hamburg, Taylor McElroy and Matthew Kibler, Jessica Peak and Brittany Hamburg, 3 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, David Crabtree of Centralia, Illinois, sister-in-law, Jennifer Crabtree of Centralia, Illinois and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mr. Hails was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steven Hails and brother, Skip Hails.

Mr. Hails was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country during the Vietnam War.  He enjoyed woodworking.  He cherished the time he spent with his family and loved having his dog, Woody, at his side.

Mr. Hails retired in 2000 as a backhoe operator from Phil Schwartz Contracting after 9 years of service.  He lived the last 30 years of his life in Centralia, Illinois.

It was the wishes of Mr. Hails to be cremated and there will be no visitation nor services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.
