Gary Lee Murray

Gary Lee Murray, age 63, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 5:35  P.M. on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, Illinois.  He was born February 16, 1952 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Ernest L. and Dorothy Phyllis (Nierman) Murray. 

Mr. Murray was survived by his son, Tyler Murray of Sesser, Illinois, granddaughter, Skylah Murray of Sesser, Illinois, mother, Dorothy Murray of Centralia, Illinois, sister, Karen Smith and husband Robert of Centralia, Illinois, nephew, Kory Smith and fiancée Kelsie Koger of Centralia, Illinois, and uncles, Larvin Nierman of Normal, Illinois and Roy Nierman and wife Zeeda of Highland, California.

Mr. Murray was preceded in death by his father, Ernest L. Murray, paternal grandparents, Roy Murray and Lizzie Murray and maternal grandparents, Oscar Nierman and Florence Nierman.

Mr. Murray was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Centralia, Illinois.  He was an avid sports fan who followed the Centralia Orphans and the St. Louis Cardinals.  He immensely enjoyed car racing.  Mr. Murray cherished the time he spent with his family, especially with his son, Tyler and granddaughter, Skylah.

After graduating with the “Class of 1970” from the Centralia Township High School, Mr. Murray was employed with Hollywood Brand Candy and later Hersey Candy Company.  He retired in February of 2015 from Graphic Packaging in Centralia, Illinois after 10 years of service.  He lived all of his life in Centralia, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Brett Palmer officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois.  Friends may call from 12:00 P.M. until the time of services at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Murray’s memory to the American Heart Association and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.
