Mary Louise Daum

Mary Louise Daum, age 88, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 11:08 P.M. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois.  She was born on September 9, 1928 in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of Henry E. and Louise A. (Grefe) Daum. 

Ms. Daum is survived by her sister-in-law, Ida Daum of Cedar Park, Texas, two nieces, Connie Chandler and husband Jerome of Redondo Beach, California and Judy Engelhardt and husband Michael of Austin, Texas, and two nephews, Paul Daum of Bourbonnais, Illinois and Christopher Daum and wife Jeanette of Chebanse, Illinois.

Ms. Daum was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Ralph Henry Daum.

Ms. Daum was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, Illinois. She was an expert cake decorator and made many cakes, including wedding cakes, for family and friends. Earlier in life, she enjoyed doing needle crafts.  Her life was spent close to The Lord as she could be seen reading her Bible nearly every day.  Her life can be summed up in these three words: “Love The Lord.”

Ms. Daum’s life work was mostly in public service as a social worker for the Department of Human Services, where she retired in 1986 after many years of service.  She attended the Centralia Township Junior College and was awarded an Associate of Arts degree with a certificate in General Education in June 1960.  She lived most of her life in Centralia, Illinois, until the last few years of her life, which were spent at the Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Mark Girardin and Pastor Perry Schefelker officiating.  Interment will be next to her mother and father in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois.  Friends may call from 11:30 A.M until the time of services at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, Illinois.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Daum’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, Illinois and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.
