Raymond W. Moran, Sr. age 75, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away at 2:22 P.M. on Monday, September 21, 2015, at his home in Chicago.  He was born on December 20, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Walter E. and Beatrice (McGuire) Moran.  He married Clarice Trammell on May 21, 1960 at St. Bonaventure Church in Chicago and they later divorced.

Mr. Moran is survived by his sons, Raymond W. Moran, Jr. and wife Tae Furuse of San Mateo, California, Hugh R. Moran and wife Leslie of Centralia, Illinois and Timothy M. Moran of Chicago, grandchildren, Raymond W. Moran III, William Moran and special friend Angenette Holland, Cecilia Moran, Quinn Moran and Shea Moran, great grandchildren, Delanie Holland Moran and Olivia Holland Moran, daughter-in-law, Judy Moran of Chicago, Illinois, brothers, Robert Moran and wife Lou of Chicago, Illinois and Hugh Moran and wife Loutiscia of LaGrange, Illinois, brother-in-law, Joe Owsiak of Berwyn, Illinois and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Moran was preceded in death by his infant son, Patrick Michael Moran, sister, Patricia “Pat” Owsiak, brother, Leonard Moran and sister-in-law, Bunny Moran.

Mr. Moran was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served as a submarine tender and underwater welder.  After serving his country, he worked construction on various Chicago downtown bridges and high rise buildings and eventually entered the trades as a pile driver and carpenter. 

In his off time, while living in Worth, Illinois, he was on the Worth Volunteer Fire Department.  In 1970, he moved back into Chicago to join the Chicago Fire Department.  He started his service to the City of Chicago as a fire-fighter on Snorkel Squad 1 and later transferred to the photography unit, 4-9-2, out of his love for photography.   He had a passion for photography and fire department memorabilia.  For years, he entered many photography contests and won several awards.  As a photographer on the Chicago Fire Department, Mr. Moran had several of his fire-related photographs published in the Chicago newspapers. As a member of the Chicago Fire Department's photography unit, he was proud to be an advisor to Director Ron Howard during the filming of "Backdraft."   In 1995, he retired with 24 1/2 years of service to the Chicago Fire Department after he suffered a stroke.  Mr. Moran attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Chicago.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church located at 3528 South Hermitage Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.  A Private Family Inurnment will take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Worth, Illinois at a later date.
