Rollin Homann Obituary

Rollin Leroy Homann, age 92, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 7:00 A.M. on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle, Illinois. He was born on April 17, 1931 in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of Harry and Meta (Schmohe) Homann.  He first married Christiane Schubert in December of 1955 and they later divorced.  He then married Iris “Christine” (Lewis) Homann in July of 1969 and she survives him in Carlyle, Illinois.

In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Mr. Homann is survived by his sons, Michael Homann and wife Robin of Glen Carbon, Illinois and Thomas Homann of Comer, Georgia; daughters, Janet Homann of Callahan, Florida, Vickie Nollman of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Bobbie McClelland of Mount Vernon, Illinois; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nephews.

Mr. Homann was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Janell Moll; great-granddaughter DeAngelique Anderson; and sister Arletta Sachtleben.

Mr. Homann was a life-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, Illinois and was a graduate of Centralia High School, Class of 1948/49.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country from February 5, 1951 until January 29, 1953.  He was a Private First Class at the time of his honorable discharge from the Army of the United States.  During his military career, Mr. Homann was awarded the National Defense Service Medal; Army of Occupation Medal (Germany); and Sharp Shooters Badge (M2 Carbine).  He enjoyed traveling and camping with his family and working in his yard. 

Mr. Homann retired in 1993 as a locomotive engineer from Illinois Central Railroad after 44 years of service.  At one time he operated Engine 2500 that now stands at Fairview Park in Centralia, Illinois.

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Rollin Leroy Homann will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Steve Upchurch officiating.  Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Sandoval, Illinois with Military Honors accorded by Centralia V.F.W. Post 2055 and Centralia American Legion Post 446.  Friends may visit with Mr. Homann’s family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Homann’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church of Centralia, Illinois or the Centralia Humane Society and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home located at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences or share memories with Mr. Homann’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net or on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
