Carol Sue “Susie” Uhls, age 78, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, formerly of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 2:25 A.M. on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Susie was born on December 6, 1938 in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of the late Jack and Mary Ann (Clarida) Sligar. She married George Wallace “Buddy” Uhls on April 10, 2012 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and he survives her in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

In addition to her husband of five years, Susie is survived by her son, Mark Andrew McDaniels and wife Angel of Sheridan, Arkansas; two grandsons, Jack Michael McDaniels of Monticello, Arkansas and Dustin McDaniels and wife Molli of Boulder, Colorado; granddaughter, Mallory Ferrell and husband Zach of Monticello, Arkansas; great-grandson, Mattox McDaniels of Monticello, Arkansas; sister Kay White and husband Rod of Centralia, Illinois and niece, Mindy White Smith and husband Mike of O'Fallon, Illinois .

Mrs. Uhls was preceded in death by her parents and son, Michael Scott McDaniels.

Susie attended the Centralia City Schools and graduated with the Centralia Township High School's Class of 1956. She graduated from the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Saint Louis, Missouri. She was a nurse at Crossett Hospital in Crossett, Arkansas. She was Director of Nursing at Salem Memorial Hospital in Salem, Illinois. Susie was a student assistant at Southern Illinois University Dental School in Alton, Illinois and several dental clinics during her career.

Mrs. Uhls enjoyed reading and caring for animals. She was an avid football fan and loved watching the New Orleans Saints. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.

Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, Illinois with Father David Baumann officiating. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Saturday. Inurnment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, Illinois.
