Alfred Henry Burmeister, age 71, of Salem, Illinois, passed away at 3:21 P.M. on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at Salem Township Hospital in Salem, Illinois. He was born on May 20, 1949, in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Wilfred Henry and Durall (Bierman) Burmeister.
Mr. Burmeister is survived by his brother-in-law, Gary Showalter and fiancé June of Iuka, Illinois; nephew, Alan Bryan of Pinckneyville, Illinois; niece, Marilyn Showalter of Iuka, Illinois; niece, Julie Showalter of Iuka, Illinois; niece, Anna Ewert of Pinckneyville, Illinois; nephew, Gary Showalter, Jr. and wife Jodi of Dahlgren, Illinois; grand-nephews, John Alex Showalter and Josh; and grand-nieces, Faith Showalter and Reagan.
Mr. Burmeister was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Showalter; two infant sisters; niece, Elizabeth Showalter and grand-nephew, Kyle.
Mr. Burmeister was a Specialist Four in the U.S. Army serving his country during the Vietnam Conflict from July 10, 1970 until February 10, 1972. During his service in the U.S. Army, he was a radio operator stationed in Germany. He graduated with Carlyle High School’s “Class of 1967.”
Mr. Burmeister was a farmer working on the family farm all of his life. He lived in Hoffman, Illinois for 3 years, and formerly lived in Iuka, Illinois for 40 years. He was born and raised in Shattuc, Illinois.
Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Alfred Henry Burmeister will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 2, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Illinois with Pastor Mark J. Hofferber officiating. As a result of current national health circumstances, friends are invited to join with Mr. Burmeister’s family via Live Stream on the Trinity Lutheran Church-Hoffman’s Facebook page at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 2, 2020. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hoffman, Illinois. Military Rites accorded by the Centralia American Post 446 and V.F.W. Post 2055. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Burmeister, sign the guest book or make a memorial contribution from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 2, 2020, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Illinois. The family ask those who are attending to please be mindful of social distancing, wear a mask, and take any health precautions necessary to ensure a healthy environment. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Burmeister’s honor to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Illinois and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.
