Audrey "Sonny" Mullins, Jr. Obituary

Audrey Dwight “Sonny” Mullins, Jr., age 77, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 4:06 A.M. on Monday, May 17, 2021, at Mount Vernon Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born on January 19, 1944, in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Audrey Dwight, Sr. and Louise (Vogt) Mullins.  He married Janice Sharp in 1969 in Marion County, Illinois and they later divorced.  He then married Lula Marie Hayes on December 29, 1999, at the Salvation Army Church in Centralia, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on January 16, 2009.

Sonny is survived by his sons, Matthew Dwight Mullins of Centralia, Illinois, and Bryan Scott Mullins of Centralia, Illinois; grandson, Nick Hall and fiancée Samantha Tartt of Staunton, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Bentley and Novalee; brother, Gary Mullins of Centralia, Illinois; sister, Elsie A. Miller of New Orleans, Louisiana; numerous nieces and nephews; and fur buddy, Winston.

In addition to his loving wife of 9 years, Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; Audrey Mullins, Sr. and Louise Mullins; brother, Dennis Raymond Mullins, and sisters, Norma Barnes, Judy Payne, Sandra Kay Mullins, and Janet Mullins Grindle.

Sonny was active with the Salvation Army Church in Centralia, Illinois, along with his wife, Marie. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.  He loved attending auctions and then having yard sales with his auction purchases.  Sonny watched tv all the time, especially movies with his favorite actor, John Wayne.  He liked to mow his yard and he and Marie would be out mowing other people’s yards.  He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially playing Rummy or Pinochle with them or enjoying the outdoors with them.  Sonny’s family believed his wife, Marie, made a change in his life.

Sonny retired in 1990 as a baler from Centralia Container Corporation after eleven years of service.  He previously worked at Hollywood Brand Candy Company from 1987 until the fire closed the candy company.  He lived his whole life in Centralia, Illinois.
