Bonnie Johnston Obituary

Bonnie Lynn Johnston, age 65, of Central City, Illinois, passed away at 7:35 P.M. on Friday, July 24, 2020 at her home in Central City, Illinois with her loving family by her side.  She was born on November 4, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of  Robert Joseph and Marlene Frances (Hambley) Jones.  She married Robert Edward “Bob” Johnston, Jr. on May 3, 1975 in Edwardsville, Illinois and he preceded her in death on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

Mrs. Johnston is survived by her children, Robert Edward Johnston III of Washington, Joseph Lee Johnston of Centralia, Illinois, Jeffrey Michael Johnston of Central City, Illinois, Lisa Marie Higgins and husband James of Central City, Illinois and Anthony Aaron Johnston and wife Stacie of Central City, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and sister, Gail Matthews and husband Mike of Edwardsville, Illinois.

In addition to her husband of 42 years, Mrs. Johnston was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Katlyn Johnston; brother, Robert Jones and sister, Barb Edwards.

Mrs. Johnston was of the Christian Faith.  She loved playing the poker machines.  She was one to please everyone else and be there for them as a caregiver.  She was really smart and people would go to her with their problems and she always seemed to have a solution for them.  Mrs. Johnston cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her husband who was her world.  She was the glue that kept everyone together and she would do everything for her children, whom she truly loved.  When her children were young, she would stroke their foreheads and backs with her long fingernails until they fell asleep.

Mrs. Johnston retired as a LPN from Bryan Manor in Salem, Illinois, after many years of service. Earlier in life, she was employed as a trainer for Rockwell International, formerly known as a Cambridge Industries and currently as Meridian Automotive Systems, for 16 years.  At the age of 49 years, Mrs. Johnston received her Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate through Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois.  She lived the last 22 years of her life in Central City, Illinois.

It was Mrs. Johnston’s wish to be cremated.  There will be no public visitation nor services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association for the study of Emphysema or Plant a Lavender Flower in your yard in Bonnie’s memory.  The memorial contributions may be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences or share memories with Mrs. Johnston’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net or on Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home’s Facebook page.
