Caroline Sprehe Obituary

Caroline M. Sprehe, age 93 of Centralia, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

 

Mrs. Sprehe was born on January 15, 1930 in Irvington, Illinois, the daughter of D. Kell and Meta (Rahn) McCullough.  She married Albert Sprehe Jr. on June 11, 1950 in Hoyleton, Illinois and he preceded her in death on February 16, 1986.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Daphna Shook and husband Larry of Centralia, Illinois; grandchildren, Andy Sprehe and wife Jennifer, Jeremy Sprehe and wife Gina, Natalie Higgerson, and Michael Shook and wife Kristen; and great-grandchildren, Morgan Sprehe, Olivia Sprehe, Matthew Sprehe Jr., Conner Sprehe, Sylvia Sprehe, Douglas Sprehe, Caroline Sprehe, Abigail Sweeney, Maggie Sprehe, Easton Sprehe, Berkley Shook and Remy Shook.

 

Preceding Mrs. Sprehe in death were her parents; husband; son, Mark Sprehe; grandson, Matthew Sprehe; and a sister, Hazel Bussin.

 

Caroline was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, Illinois  for many years, helping in the office, teaching Sunday School, serving on several committees and boards, and she enjoyed the fellowship of her church family.  She served as church treasurer while a member at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Florida. She enjoyed canning with her daughter, created beautiful needlework pieces and loved to travel with family and friends.  She loved getting to spend time with her cousins in Wisconsin and always looked forward to company coming to visit while she lived in Palm Springs, Florida.  She was a past member of the D.A.R. and the Jefferson County genealogy group.  She began working at the canning factory in Wisconsin during high school, after graduation she worked for Radmor Auto Dealership.  She went on to be a homemaker, worked for the Centralia Morning Sentinel, Centralia Cartage in the payroll department, and the Ferrin elevator.  She was employed for many years in accounting for Cook International in Palm Beach, FL until her retirement. 

A Celebration of Life for Caroline M. Sprehe will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, Illinois with Pastor James Henning officiating.  Interment will follow at Fouts Cemetery in Irvington, Illinois.  Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service.  Memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.  Moran, Queen-Boggs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences, or share memories with Caroline’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net
