Daniel Blaine Carter, age 56, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 9:38 A.M. on Thursday, March 26, 2020, due to complications of bilateral pneumonia at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois. He was born on April 23, 1963 in Clarksville, Indiana, the son of Cecil Kenneth and Millicent Ann (Laun) Carter.
Mr. Carter was a member of the Catholic Church and received the Last Rites of the Church prior to his passing by Reverend Joannie Naraghi, chaplain at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital.
Mr. Carter is survived by his Life Partner, Tina Hutton of Centralia Illinois. His Daughters, Jennifer Carter of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Katie Carter of Indianapolis, Indiana and Heather Carter of Sellersburg, Indiana. His Grandsons, David Carter and Solomon Carter of Jeffersonville, Indiana. His Step-Children from his Life Partner, Tiffany Reardon and Mandy Reardon of Centralia, Illinois and Dani Hutton Casares and Husband Steven Casares of Belton, Texas. Grandson of his Life Partner, Vincent Bates of Centralia, who referred to him as Pappaw and "His Best Buddy." Mr. Carter also leaves behind Half-Sisters, Linda Campbell, Susan Schmidt and Leslie Hartman and a Half-Brother, James Harris.
Mr. Carter worked as a delivery driver for the UPS Louisville, Kentucky Facility for 20 years until his retirement. "Carter", as he was affectionately referred to in our local community, moved to Centralia, Illinois in 2009 and continued to work as a Salesman, Meat Cutter and Marketing Manager. His most recent position was as a Marketer for Superior Window Company until he was disabled in 2017. He spent his retirement petting, playing with, and caring for his three fur babies Autumn, Millie and Crook whom he adored.
Carter was an avid history and military buff. He was a relative encyclopedia of a myriad of topics. He relished in learning and sharing the knowledge he gained. He was a storyteller that was both exceptional and relentless in the sharing of the information he acquired. Carter was an optimistic, positive, upbeat and jovial friend and co-worker. He was a consummate domino competitor and teacher, that enjoyed fierce competition with his Life partner. It is said that the greatest achievement of a teacher is "to enable his students to surpass him" and this is arguably the case (and would be argued about by Carter) because I was ahead of him in the overall points we recorded. He would want me to note that he did give me quite “the whopping” in the last game we shared.
Dan was proceeded in death by his Father, Cecil Kenneth Carter; Mother, Millicent Ann Carter; Grandmother, Alene E. Laun Whitehouse and Fur Baby, Ralph "Danger" Carter. Dan found comfort in knowing he would be reunited with all those he had lost and spoke often of seeing all of them together welcoming him into Glory with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Due to the current Pandemic, the Life Celebration Service for Mr. Daniel Blaine Carter will be held at a future date. The family would like to express their deepest and most sincere gratitude to the Health Care Professionals at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois, who were determined to do everything in their power to fight with and for Dan to save his life.
