Eugene "Gene" Eversgerd Obituary

Eugene Vincent “Gene” Eversgerd, age 86, of Hoffman, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 2:45 P.M. on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at his home in Hoffman, Illinois. He was born on January 12, 1934 in Saint Rose Township, Illinois, the son of Aloysius, Sr. and Gertrude (Huelsmann) Eversgerd.  He married Wannita Marie Wessel on April 15, 1961, at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, Illinois, and she preceded him in death om September 3, 1983. 

Mr. Eversgerd is survived by his daughters, Diane Mattmiller and husband Dale of Centralia, Illinois, and Linda Haake and husband Neil of Hoyleton, Illinois; grandchildren, Sarah Dalton and husband Adam of Nashville, Tennessee, Tyler Mattmiller and wife Megan of Highland, Illinois, Ryan Haake and special friend Emily Kracht of Hoyleton, Illinois, Allison Haake and special friend Jeremy Albers of Boulder, Illinois and Andrea Calland of Warsaw, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Callen Mattmiller, Sienna Mattmiller, Elyana Calland, Savana Calland and AJ Calland; sisters and brother, Marian Lippert of Carlyle, Illinois, Patricia Wessel and husband Willard of Centralia, Illinois, brother, Firmin “Gus” Eversgerd and wife Doris of Nashville, Illinois, Carol Peters and husband Jim of Cotton Town, Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Barb Eversgerd of Centralia, Illinois, LuVerne Stewart of Saint Louis, Missouri and Shirley Eversgerd of Trenton, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife of 22 years, Mr. Eversgerd was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Nelda Hanks; brothers, Al “Jr.” Eversgerd and David Eversgerd; step-sister, Leota Pommer and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don Lippert, Evelyn Eversgerd, Warren Land, Irene Land, Mike Nivens, Bernice Nivens and William Stewart.

Mr. Eversgerd was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving his country from June 22, 1953 until June 21, 1957.  He was a Staff Sergeant (Technician) at the time of his separation from the military service.  Mr. Eversgerd was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing on Carlyle Lake.  He was known by his family to be humble and quiet, a man of few words.  He was all about his family being taken care of and willing to lend a hand to help a neighbor or friend if needed.  He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and siblings.

Mr. Eversgerd retired in 1996 as a dredge operator for Keyesport Sand and Gravel and earlier in life, he was a mechanic for A & A Equipment in Hoffman, Illinois.  He lived most of his life in Hoffman, Illinois.

A Private Graveside Service for Mr. Eugene Vincent “Gene” Eversgerd will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Miguel Torneire officiating.  Military Honors will be accorded by Centralia American Legion Post 446 and Centralia V.F.W. Post 2055.  Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.  Private Family Visitation will be held at Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Eversgerd’s memory to the Clinton County Senior Services in Carlyle, Illinois or Charity of Donor’s Choice and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.
