Gene Hill, age 72, of Hoffman, Illinois, passed away at 9:57 P.M. on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at SSM Health Saint Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois. He was born on January 19, 1949, the son of Sylven Eugene and Margaret W. (Gore) Hill. He married Linda Jo Moore on March 14, 1970, at Central City Baptist Church in Central City, Illinois, and she survives him in Hoffman, Illinois.
In addition to his loving wife of 50 years, Gene is survived by his children, Kevin Eugene Hill of Saint Louis, Missouri, Amy Lynn Sanders and husband Shawn of Boyd, Illinois, and James O. Hill and wife Adeana of Central City, Illinois; niece, Holly Schneider of Centralia, Illinois; stepsister, Jeanette Nehrt and husband Cliff of Hoffman, Illinois; furry friend and companion, Walter; and several cousins.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Sylven Hill; mother, Margaret Gore; stepfather, Robert Gore; stepmother, Pauline Hill; and son-in-law, Benjamin Andrew Torres.
Gene was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed sitting at home watching his game shows, sitting on the swing on the front porch and having cookouts for his family and friends. He loved getting in his truck and driving through the countryside with his family. He religiously cut the grass in his yard every other day. In his younger days, Gene liked his muscle cars. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
Gene was a long-haul truck driver for Gilster-Mary Lee in Centralia, Illinois from 1990 until his retirement in 2015. He formerly was a plant foreman for Pepsi Bottling Company in Centralia, Illinois, serving the company for twenty-one and a half years until 1990. Gene graduated with Centralia Township High School’s “Class of 1967.” He lived in Hoffman, Illinois, for fifteen years and previously lived in Central City, Illinois.
Graveside Services for Mr. Gene Hill will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Kyle Ryan officiating. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Saturday. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Hill, sign the guest book or make a memorial contribution from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, March 12, 2021, at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois. The family asks those who are attending to please be mindful of social distancing, wear a mask, and take any health precautions necessary to ensure a healthy environment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Hill’s honor to the American Cancer Society or Hoffman Fire Department in Hoffman, Illinois, and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.
