Jean Sturgell Obituary

Jean Francis Sturgell, age 60, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 2:45 P.M. on Friday, February 12, 2021, at her home in Centralia, Illinois, with her loving family by her side.  She was born on March 28, 1960, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri, the daughter of George and Marjorie Jean (Leonard) Ramsey.

Jean is survived by her son, Bruce Sturgell and wife Shanna of Portland, Oregon; life-partner and fiancé of 36 years, Ronald F. “Ron” Corless of Centralia, Illinois; stepson, Sean Corless and wife Stefanie of Fort Sill, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Finn Sturgell, Isla Sturgell, Oliver Sturgell, Madyson Corless, Fallon Corless and Rylan Corless; and brother, George “Geo’ Ramsey and wife Robin of Christopher, Illinois.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, George Ramsey and Marjorie Jean “Marge” Ramsey; uncles, Gordon Leonard, Harvey Leonard, Richard “Dick” Leonard and Ray Leonard; aunts, Joyce Morgan, Phyllis Simpson and Lois Leonard; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jean was of the Methodist Faith.  She was an avid fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals.  She was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and NASCAR.  She enjoyed reading Sci Fi and Fantasy books and some of her favorite authors were Stephen King and Dean Koontz. She liked to sit and watch her soap operas.  She was a crossword puzzle enthusiast.  Jean was a very positive person, who was known to be genuine, kind, and loving.  She never knew a stranger and cared about other people. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.

Jean was employed as a clerk at VP Station/BP Station/Smith Amoco Station in Centralia, Illinois.  She retired in 2003 with the closing of Rockwell International/Meridian Automotive Systems Incorporated in Centralia, Illinois.  She served the company for 20 years, where she was a finisher, tow motor driver, and an union representative over the maintenance department and several other departments.  Jean attended Saint Louis University for one year and graduated with Ritenour Senior High School’s “Class of 1977” in Saint Louis, Missouri.  She lived most of her life in Centralia, Illinois.
