Karen Fae Burleyson, age 72, of Centralia, Illinois, passed at 8:23 P.M. on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, with her loving family by her side. She was born on December 5, 1948, in Breese, Illinois, the daughter of Harold Albert and Virginia Lee (Sanders) Buchele. She married Thomas “Tom” Burleyson on May 27, 1995, at Boulder United Methodist Church, in Boulder, Illinois, and he survives her in Centralia, Illinois.
In addition to her loving husband of 26 years, Karen is survived by her sons, Travis Burleyson and wife Nikki of Belleville, Illinois, and Brandon Burelyson and wife Staci of Centralia, Illinois; precious grandsons, Keagan Burleyson, Bryar Burleyson and Andrew Burleyson; sister, Nina Buchele of Centralia, Illinois; brothers, Dennis Buchele and wife Jane of Carlyle, Illinois, and Ray Buchele and wife Lucy of Carlyle, Illinois; nieces, Dana Rakers and husband Jon, Traci Garner and husband Jason, and Kim Cruise and husband John; nephews, Jeff Buchele and wife Renee, and Michael “Mike” Buchele and wife Janice; many friends and furry companion, Ella Rose.
Karen was preceded in death in by her parents, Harold Albert Buchele and Virginia Lee Buchele; and her furry companion, Mabel.
Karen was a member of Boulder United Methodist Church in Boulder, Illinois. She loved to tend to her beautiful flowers in her yard. She enjoyed feeding and watching the hummingbirds that gathered at her feeders. Karen was a big fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals. She attended many years of Centralia Balloon Fest, where she and her husband, Tom, crewed for the balloon pilots. Karen was an avid collector of shoes. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandkids. She spent every moment she could with them playing kickball, and wiffle ball, riding bikes with them, and taking them on picnics. Karen would attend her grandson’s ball games and rarely missed one of them.
Karen owned and operated Karen’s Beauty Shop in Centralia, Illinois, where she provided a personalized service to friends in her community for 54 years. While attending cosmetology school, she was employed with Dee Ann’s Beauty Shop in Centralia, Illinois. Karen graduated from the Centralia School of Cosmetology and with Carlyle High School’s “Class of 1966.” She lived most of her life in Centralia, Illinois.
Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Karen Fae Burleyson will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 19, 2021, at Boulder United Methodist Church in Boulder, Illinois with Reverend Michael Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Pritchett Cemetery near Boulder, Illinois. Friends may pay their respects to Karen, sign the guest book or make a memorial contribution from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M., on Monday at the Boulder United Methodist Church in Boulder, Illinois. The family asks those who are attending to please be mindful of social distancing, wear a mask, and take any health precautions necessary to ensure a healthy environment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karen’s honor to Pritchett Cemetery near Boulder, Illinois and may be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.
