Larry Brashear Obituary

Larry Joe Brashear, age 77, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 11:30 A.M. on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at his home in Centralia, Illinois.  He was born on September 24, 1943, in Nowata, Oklahoma, the son of John Wesley and Mary Frances (Jennings) Brashear.  He married Jean Copple on August 31, 1963, at Little Grove Christian Church in Walnut Hill, Illinois and she preceded him in death on December 19, 2016.

Mr. Brashear is survived by his devoted and loving children, John Brashear and wife Ann of Centralia, Illinois, Joe Brashear and wife Maria of Carlinville, Illinois, and Dawn Bone and husband Tony of Centralia, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Amy Hanon and husband Stuart, Matthew Brashear and wife Hannah, Stevie Lynn Brashear, Madison Brashear, Chelsea Rogers and husband Chase, Emily Noll and husband Brenden, Radley Starkey and wife Shannon, Risa Starkey and fiancé Phillip Rhodes and Dane Boatman, eight great-grandchildren, Kyndall Brashear, Karsten Rogers, Fallon Rogers, Kylie Starkey, Rainey Starkey, Savannah Hanon, Nash Hanon and Tucker Noll; brother, Allen Brashear and wife Pixie of Centralia, Illinois; sisters, Ethel Wilson of Litchfield, Illinois and Kammy Goostree and husband Rick of Odin, Illinois; sister-in-law, Judy Kelsheimer and husband Bob of Centralia, Illinois, brother-in-law, Mike Copple and wife Jenny of Centralia, Illinois, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his loving wife of 53 years, Jean Brashear, Mr. Brashear was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Brashear was a member of Calumet Street Christian Church in Centralia, Illinois, where he was formerly a deacon and a member of the board of trustees.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army proudly serving his country. He was an avid birdwatcher, and he would keep track of the different birds visiting the feeder in his yard.  He enjoyed being in the outdoors fishing and golfing.  After retirement, Mr. Brashear traveled worldwide with his wife, Jean, and furry companion, Buddy.  He was loved by everyone and gave everyone a chance.  He was a compassionate person, who lovingly took care of his wife and father in their time of illness.  He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.

Mr. Brashear retired in 1998 from Littelfuse in Centralia, Illinois as a Senior Advisor to Foreign Markets after 7 years of service.  He was a plant manager at Littelfuse for 20 years.  He graduated with an Associate Degree from Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois, and Centralia Township High School’s “Class of 1961.”  He lived most of his life in Centralia, Illinois.

A Memorial Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Larry Joe Brashear will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Calumet Street Christian Church in Centralia, Illinois.  Military Honors will be accorded by Centralia American Legion Post # 446 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post # 2055 at the church.  Interment took place in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois.  Friends may visit with Mr. Brashear’s family from 9:00 A.M. until the time of his service at 10:30 A.M., on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Calumet Street Christian Church in Centralia, Illinois.  The family asks those who are attending to please be mindful of social distancing, wear a mask, and take any health precautions necessary to ensure a healthy environment.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences or share memories with Mr. Brashear’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net or on Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home’s Facebook page.
