Mamie Lovejoy Obituary

Mamie Elizabeth Lovejoy, age 93, of Centralia, Illinois, went to be with her Lord at 11:17 P.M. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at Centralia Fireside House in Centralia, Illinois.  She was born on January 11, 1926, in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of the late William and Flossie (Bryant) Cassedy.  She married Kiah W. Brown on November 14, 1945 and he preceded her in death on December 11, 1974. She married Max Franklin Lovejoy on June 3, 1975, in Mount Vernon, Illinois and he preceded her in death on April 10, 2018. 

Mrs. Lovejoy is survived by her son, Doug Brown and wife Kay of Carlyle, Illinois; stepdaughter, Troyce Anderson and husband Gary of Lugoff, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Carol Brown of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren, Kyla Brown, Phillip Sisson and wife Allison, Leigh Ann Stewart, Dennis Brown and wife Ami, Michael Brown and wife Tracy, Lisa Brown Williams and husband Jon, John Kiah Brown and wife Karen, Paul Brown and wife Kristen and Angie Brown Salvato and husband Matt; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Green of Centralia, Illinois and sister-in-law, Dorothy Cassedy of Centralia, Illinois.

In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her first husband; Kiah W. Brown, her second husband, Max Franklin Lovejoy; son, John M. Brown and her brothers, William Cassedy and Robert Cassedy.

Mrs. Lovejoy was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Centralia, Illinois, where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Centralia, Illinois and a member of the Cenaca Club, where she was president in 1998 and 1999.  She was an avid member of the Raccoon Ramblers Camping Club and former member of the Centralia Squares, where she square danced at the rec center for many years.  Earlier in life, she was a self-taught guitar player.  She enjoyed creating her crafts and playing dominoes.  She always had a liking for a Domino’s Pizza and Coco-Cola drink.  Mrs. Lovejoy loved cooking and she was an incredible hostess, who enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved playing games and doing other activities with them.

Mrs. Lovejoy retired as a secretary from the Kaskaskia Special Education District in Centralia, Illinois after 20 years of service.  She was formerly employed as a secretary with Centralia Township High School for a number of years.  She graduated with the Centralia Township High School’s “Class of 1944”.  She lived most of her life in Centralia, Illinois

A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Mamie Elizabeth Lovejoy will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Anita Munden officiating.  Inurnment in Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Central City, Illinois at a later date. Friends are invited to visit with Mrs. Lovejoy’s family from 10:30 A.M. until the time of services at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Lovejoy’s memory to the First United Methodist Church in Centralia, Illinois, and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences or share memories with Mrs. Lovejoy’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net or on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
