Marcelline Janice “Marcy” Kirkland, age 92, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 11:44 P.M. on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. She was born on November 23, 1927 in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of Cecil R. and Ota A. (Smith) Bousman. She married Charles R. Kirkland on May 28, 1950 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Centralia, Illinois and he preceded her in death on March 26, 2001.
Mrs. Kirkland is survived by her son, Stewart Kirkland of Centralia, Illinois; daughter, Allison Kirkland of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Jay Marcum of Charleston, South Carolina, Libby Marcum Wells and husband Devan of Charleston, South Carolina and Piper Marcum of Centralia, Illinois; brother, Virgil Bousman and wife Jane of Trinidad, Texas; sisters-in-law, Johnsie Kirkland of Houston, Texas, Donna Kirkland of Jefferson City, Missouri and Venita Wade of Ormond Beach, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her loving husband of 50 years, Mrs. Kirkland was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Otis Beard, John Darrel Beard and Richard Bousman; sisters, Dorothy Kallanj, Theresa Vogler and Faye Siegler and sisters-in-law, Margie Kirkland, Marietta Broughton, Elvera Kirkland and Dorothy Beard and brothers-in-law, Jim Broughton, Francis Kirkland, Keith Kirkland, Don Kirkland, John Kallanj, Roy Vogler and Ralph Siegler.
Mrs. Kirkland was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Centralia, Illinois. She enjoyed swimming and swam every day at the Centralia Recreation Complex until her health wouldn’t allow her. She cherished the time she spent with her family and after their retirement, she would travel with her husband. She is remembered as being a loving mother and wife.
Mrs. Kirkland retired as a secretary from the Coca Cola Distributor in Centralia, Illinois after two years of service. Earlier in life, she was employed at the Car City Datsun in Centralia, Illinois and was a service representative for Illinois Bell Telephone in Centralia, Illinois from 1946 until 1959. She lived all of her life in Centralia, Illinois.
Mrs. Kirkland was a very giving person, as it was her wishes to be anatomically donated to the Saint Louis School of Medicine. There will be no public visitation nor services. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Kirkland’s honor to the Centralia Community Youth Center, Wow-Kids (Wonders of the Woods) in Centralia, Illinois or Charity of Donor’s Choice and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.
