Nancy Cook Obituary

Nancy Kay Cook, age 78, of Odin, Illinois, passed away at 2:35 P.M. on Monday, November 29, 2021, in Salem Township Hospital in Salem, Illinois.  She was born on May 6, 1943, in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of Sebern Leroy and Zelma (Treadway) Phelps.  She married Billy Gene Cook on February 19, 1962, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on December 20, 2005.

Nancy is survived by her loving family, three sons, John Cook of Odin, Illinois, Billy Gene Cook, Jr. of Allen, Texas, and Francis Cook of Odin, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Brandie Carter and husband Joey, Trevor Cook, Taryn Rogerio and husband Roel, Ethan Cook and fiancée Chelsee Manion, Ian Cook, Kyle Cook, and Chloe Schlau; three great-grandchildren, Brett Carter, Kryslynn Carter and Felicity Cook; three brothers, Johnny Phelps of Boulder, Illinois, David Phelps of Centralia, Illinois, and Roger Phelps of Odin, Illinois; five sisters, Virginia Franklin of Centralia, Illinois, Shirley Roberts of Galesburg, Illinois, Carolyn Albert of Odin, Illinois, Mary Cook of Sandoval, Illinois, and Carla Petrea of Centralia, Illinois; brother-in-law, DeWitt Adams of Odin, Illinois; and many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews.  Nancy was looking forward to the birth of her great-grandchild on December 10, 2021, baby of Taryn and Roel Rogerio.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy Phelps and Zelma Phelps; husband of 43 years, Billy Gene Cook, Sr.; sisters, Barbara Foutch, Cathy Adams, and Patty Phelps; and brothers-in-law, Ray Albert, Sr., and Victor Cook.

Nancy attended the Free Will Baptist Church in Salem, Illinois.  She enjoyed working out in her yard.  She loved going out and doing things, as she was not one to sit home and do nothing.  Nancy cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her kids and grandkids.  She traveled with her son, Francis, to visit family in Texas and Florida.  It was on these trips with her son; she would attend a rodeo or swim with the dolphins.

Nancy retired in 2010 as a line worker from North American Lighting in Salem, Illinois, after 9 years of service.  She has lived in Odin, Illinois, most of her life.

It was Mrs. Nancy Kay Cook’s wishes to be cremated.  There will be no public visitation nor services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Cook’s honor to the Free Will Baptist Church in Salem, Illinois, and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences, or share memories with Mrs. Cook’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net.
