Nellie Irene (Turner) Mashburn

Nellie Irene (Turner) Mashburn, age 95, of Central City, Illinois, passed away at 9:25 A.M. on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Fireside House in Centralia, Illinois.  She was born on October 10, 1923, at home near Alma, Illinois, the daughter of James Elmer and Grace (Ott) Turner.  She married Joseph “Joe” Mashburn on January 20, 1944 in Centralia, Illinois and he preceded her in death on December 30, 1997.

Mrs. Mashburn is survived by her sons, Joseph “Carl” Mashburn and wife Linda of Centralia, Illinois, Earl Mashburn and wife Donna of Centralia, Illinois and Robert Mashburn and wife Dorris of Centralia, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Judy Mashburn of Centralia, Illinois; sister, Bertha Sloat of Musatine, Iowa; grandchildren, Michele Mashburn of Centralia, Illinois, Krista Johnson and husband Trey of Bartelso, Illinois, Angela Weber of Centralia, Illinois, Jennifer Marsh and friend Mike Smith of Centralia, Illinois, Jeffery Mashburn and wife Chandell of Centralia, Illinois, Jeremy Mashburn of Irvington, Illinois, Amy Green and husband Richard of Chicago, Illinois and Jill Mashburn of Centralia, Illinois; step-granddaughter, Misty Rollinson and husband Mark of Centralia, Illinois; step-grandson, Mark McDaniel and wife Chrissy of Centralia, Illinois; thirteen great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, Mrs. Mashburn was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Laura (Weems) Turner; son, Jerry Mashburn; brother, Lloyd Turner; sisters, Ethel Wilsdon and Sarah “Lindy” Ehrat; brother-in-law, Leonard Sloat and sister-in-law, Ida Turner.

Mrs. Mashburn was a member of the Church of God.  She was a housewife and a stay at home mom.  She loved cooking, especially making pies and cakes.  She enjoyed making quilts for her family.  At Halloween time, she made sure she had plenty of popcorn balls for her family and friends.  She has lived her whole life in Central City, Illinois.

A Graveside Service for Mrs. Nellie Irene Mashburn will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Central City, Illinois with Reverend Paula Comper officiating.  Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery on Thursday.  It was Nellie’s wish to have a private family visitation.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Mashburn’s  memory to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences or share memories with Mrs. Mashburn’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net or on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
