Rebecca Lynn (Edmonson) Hammond

Rebecca Lynn Hammond, age 65, of Centralia, Illinois, when she took her last breath at 7:50 P.M. on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois, she was surrounded by all who loved her.  She was born on November 13, 1957, in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of Jerry Dale and Peggy Joyce (Newborn) Edmonson.  She married Dennis Lee Hammond on June 30, 2006, in Nashville, Illinois, and he survives her in Centralia, Illinois.

In addition to her loving husband of 16 years, Rebecca is survived by her loving family, mother, Peggy Edmonson of Centralia, Illinois; children, Angela Wolf and husband Chris of Centralia, Illinois, Jera Alcorn and special friend Mikie Branon of Centralia, Illinois, Greg Carpenter, Jr. and special friend Michelle Hixenbaugh of Centralia, Illinois, Carrie Berry of Centralia, Illinois, Lori Yarbrough of Centralia, Illinois, Jessica Hammond of Carlyle, Illinois, and DenDen Hammond of Richview, Illinois; twenty seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Aaron Edmonson and wife Rhonda of Centralia, Illinois; sisters, Belinda Fitz and husband Hugh of Mascoutah, Illinois, and Jennifer Crabtree and husband David of Centralia, Illinois; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends.  She was expecting the birth of a great-grandchild in January of 2024.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Dale Edmonson.

Rebecca was a member of the Central City Baptist Church. She loved to sew and read. She enjoyed listening to music, including the Dixie Chicks.  Rebecca’s family was her life.  She cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.  She phone and online shopped for her grandkids. She liked to bake all the time with the grandkids.  Rebecca spent a lot of time on her porch with her dogs, Zazla and Yaddie, and her cats, Silas and Angel.

Rebecca graduated with the Centralia Township High School’s “Class of 1975.”  She was a Certified Nurses Aide with Centralia Manor and retired after many years of service to her residents, due to her failing health. She has lived her whole life in Centralia, Illinois.

Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Rebecca Lynn Hammond will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Bishop Henry Dabney officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, Illinois.  Friends are asked to meet with Mrs. Hammond’s family from 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, June 9, 2023, and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of her services at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested and may be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences, or share memories with Mrs. Hammond’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net.
