Robert Edward "Bob" Johnston, Jr.

Robert Edward “Bob” Johnston, Jr., age 70, of Central City, Illinois, passed away at 9:11 P.M. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Odin Healthcare Center in Odin, Illinois with his loving family by his side.  He was born on July 7, 1947 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of the late Robert Edward, Sr. and Venita Irene (Hobbs) Johnston.  He married Bonnie Lynn Jones on May 3, 1975 in Edwardsville, Illinois and she survives him in Centralia, Illinois.

In addition to his wife of 42 years, Mr. Johnston is survived by his children, Robert Edward Johnston III of Montana, Joseph Lee Johnston of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Jeffrey Michael Johnston of Central City, Illinois, Lisa Marie Higgins and husband James of Central City, Illinois and Anthony Aaron Johnston of Central City, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Michael Johnston and wife Ruth of Sandoval, Illinois, Terry Johnston and wife Mystee of Central City, Illinois and John Johnston and wife Tonya of Central City, Illinois; sister, Polly Johnston and wife Kathleen of Centralia, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his sister, Susie Keller and granddaughter, Katlyn Johnston.

Mr. Johnston loved to fish and enjoyed playing the slot machines.  He would do anything for his family, especially for his children.  The family would like to express their gratitude to Lindey, Jason and SSM Hospice.

Mr. Johnston retired in 1998 as a driver from South Central Transit after 8 years of service.  Earlier in life, he was a route salesman and manager with Pepsi Cola Company in Centralia, Illinois, DuQuoin, Illinois and Paris, Tennessee. He lived the last 20 years of his life in Central City, Illinois.

It was Mr. Johnston’s wish to be cremated.  There will be no public visitation nor services.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences or share memories with Mr. Johnston’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net or on the funeral home’s Facebook page.
