Rose Jackson Obituary

Rose Lucille Jackson, age 92, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 11:45 A.M. on Monday, June 13, 2022, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois, with her loving family by her side.  She was born on May 18, 1930, DuBoistown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Margarite Irene (Grimm) Gaffney. She married John D. Jackson on August 14, 1999, in Centralia, Illinois, and he survives her in Centralia, Illinois.  Earlier in life, she married Courtice F. Bowman in 1961 and he preceded her in death on May 25, 1991.

In addition to her loving husband of 22 years, Rose’s memories are cherished by her family; four daughters, Stella A. Langreder and husband Scott of Collinsville, Illinois, V. Gail Wiggs and husband Jim of Dix, Illinois, Linda S. Hagen of Dix, Illinois, and Denise Losco and husband Dan of Wilmington, Delaware; one son, Courtice F. Bowman, Jr. and wife Chonticha of Sullivan, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild soon to arrive; five great great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia A. Wilt and husband James of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; three stepsons, John A. Jackson Sacramento, California, Steve Jackson and wife MaryAnn of Centralia, Illinois, and Greg Jackson and wife Gayla of Centralia, Illinois; and stepdaughter, Kathy Bradford and husband Jason of Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Rose was preceded by her parents, John Gaffney and Margarite Irene Gaffney; first husband, Courtice F. Bowman; and three sisters, Geraldine Lukasavage, Emma Putt, and Mary Smith.

Rose was completely devoted to her husband and family, and was involved in numerous church activities with John, with far too many to mention.  She was involved with Adopt A Grandparent Program at Friendship Nursing Home in Nashville, Illinois, Meals On Wheels in Nashville, Illinois, and Maryville, Illinois, and the Deaf Ministry in Nashville, Illinois.  Rose donated numerous and numerous hours to kitchen work for the church and feeding the masses through Eternity Baptist Church in Centralia, Illinois, for Hurricane Katrina.  She hosted numerous foreign students in her home and fed many shut-ins, assisting with feeding and clothing the homeless and battered women at Maryville Church in Maryville, Illinois.

Rose never met a stranger that didn't become her friend, and enjoyed traveling to other countries and states, camping and boating with her children and grandchildren.  She absolutely loved growing vegetables and flowers, and yes, she played the saxophone and guitar.  She was proud and vocal, about her faith in God, and was 42 years old when she was saved by Grace.  Heaven has a new Angel, and she will definitely have an opinion.

Rose was a supervisor in the Food Management Department at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois, and retired after 20 years of service.  She lived in Centralia, Illinois, since 1995, and formerly lived in Oakdale, Illinois, and Fairview Heights, Illinois.

It was the wishes of Mrs. Rose L. Jackson to leave this world quietly with no public visitation or service.  The family will have inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery in Nashville, Illinois.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rose’s honor to Eternity Baptist Church or Carpenters for Christ Tool Fund through Eternity Baptist Church in Centralia, Illinois, and may be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois 62801.
