Shirley Steinkamp Obituary

Shirley Joy Steinkamp, age 68, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away (not COVID) on Friday, November 20, 2020, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Clayton, Missouri. She was born on October 9, 1952, in Centralia, Illinois, the daughter of Gus A. and Esther P. (Eikhoff) Steinkamp.

Ms. Steinkamp is survived by her aunt, Mildred Rakers and husband Jerome of Carlyle, Illinois; cousins, Kathy Berndsen and husband Mark of Breese, Illinois, Barb Geiger and husband Tim of Tomball, Texas, Jon Rakers and wife Dana of Centralia, Missouri, Carla Johnson and husband Gary of Fenton, Missouri, Martin Michael of Centralia, Illinois, Dorothy Carroll of Saint Louis, Missouri, Helen Carroll of Saint Louis, Missouri, Katherine Mattmiller and husband Dwight of Centralia, Illinois, Leroy Kleiboeker and wife Dorothy of Shattuc, Illinois, Viola Brinkmann of Carlyle, Illinois, Phyllis See and husband Eddie of Iuka, Illinois and Marlene Cole and husband Randy of Centralia, Illinois and many close friends.

Ms. Steinkamp was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Esther Steinkamp; aunt, Lillie Gillespie; uncle, Erwin Eikhoff,; aunt; Lydia Brinkmann; aunt, Lena Kleiboeker; aunt, Ida Carroll; aunt, Amanda Eisenbeis and aunt, Hulda Kroeger.

Ms. Steinkamp liked traveling with her special friends and family throughout the country and visiting presidential museums.  She was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan, who attended Game 5 of the 1987 National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers with her cousin, Jon.  She enjoyed reading and watching her soap operas.  Shirley loved Christmas and decorating her house for the Christmas season. She enjoyed spending holidays and special occasions with family.  She cherished attending her father’s war buddies reunions and later on with their children.

Ms. Steinkamp retired after many years of service as a bookkeeper for Fairco Supply, Karchmer Pipe and Supply Company, Mercantile Bank and Centralia Cartage Company in Centralia, Illinois.  She attended Kaskaskia College and graduated from Centralia High School.  She lived her whole life in Centralia, Illinois.

Celebration of Life Services for Ms. Shirley Joy Steinkamp will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Illinois, with Pastor Mark J. Hofferber officiating.  Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois.  Friends may pay their respects to Ms. Steinkamp, sign the guest book or make a memorial contribution from 11:30 A.M. until the time of services at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoffman, Illinois.  The family ask those who are attending to please be mindful of social distancing, wear a mask, and take any health precautions necessary to ensure a healthy environment.  Memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Steinkamp’s honor to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Charity of Donor’s Choice and will be received by the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home at 134 South Elm Street in Centralia, Illinois.  Please view the online obituary, send condolences or share memories with Ms. Steinkamp’s family at www.moranfuneralhome.net.
