David Abraham Murray, age 68 of Centralia, Illinois, peacefully passed away at 8:30 P.M. on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at  his daughter's home in Centralia, Illinois with his family by his side.  He was born on October 9, 1947 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Varlyn Glen “Shavo” and Florence (Sokolsky) Murray. He married Lynette Jackson on July 28, 1969 in Centralia, Illinois and they later divorced remaining very good friends over the years.

Mr. Murray is survived by his loving son; Robert Murray and wife Christi of Greenup, Illinois, daughters; Tracy Whitlock and fiance' Chris Folmsbee of Salem, Illinois, Lisa Hill and husband Jason of Centralia, Illinois and Melanie Wathan and husband Jack of Centralia, Illinois, grandchildren; Dylan McCarty, Ryan McCarty, Kameron Mayoral, Garrison Driskil, Bradley Murray, Dustin Donaldson and wife Brittany, Justin Murray, Ashtin Murray, Gavin Hill, Cora Hill, Brittany Wathan, Mason Wathan and girlfriend Alex Roper, Tanner Murray and Kaylee Murray, 6 great grandchildren, brother; James A. Murray and wife Vickie of Salt Lake City, Utah, sister; Sharon L. Miller of Centralia, Illinois, special friend, Bessie Jackson of Centralia, Illinois, many nieces, nephews and friends and dogs; Suzie, Pepper, Pita and Dutchie.

Mr. Murray was preceded in death by his parents; sisters; Ann Garren and Shelby Sumner, brother-in-law; Steve Miller and special friend Robert Jackson.

Mr. Murray loved gambling and visiting the boats with his sister, Sharon. After his retirement, he continued to work with his backhoe and also made picnic tables and wishing wells. He had a special place in his heart for animals as he watched and fed the neighborhood birds, cats and squirrels. He liked watching western movies. He enjoyed playing the banjo and listening to the music of Roy Orbison, Celine Dion, Don Williams and Luciano Pavarotti. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and mother. As said by his family, "He was known for his good humor and corniest jokes. He will be greatly missed."

Mr. Murray retired from the sanitation department at the Hollywood Brands Candy Company in Centralia, Illinois after 29 years of service. He lived his whole life in Centralia, Illinois.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, April 25, 2016, at Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Mr. Jason Hill officiating. Memorial gathering from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Murray's honor to the Centralia Humane Society and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.
