Helen Isobel Niekrenz, age 82, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Odin Healthcare Center in Odin, Illinois. She was born on August 31, 1934 in Beaucoup Township in Washington County, Illinois, the daughter of Thedore H. “Ted” and Gladys (Clark) Fehrmann. She married Duane Edward Niekrenz on September 7, 1975 at St. Peter United Church of Christ in Centralia, Illinois and he survives her in Centralia, Illinois.

In addition to her husband of 41 years, Helen is survived by her two sisters, Judith Fehrmann and Jane Edmonson, both of Centralia, Illinois, two nieces, Rondi Edmonson of Saratoga Springs, New York and Jana Musial of Centralia, Illinois, nephew, John W. Edmonson II of Centralia, Illinois, great-nieces, Anna Carr Bates of Hudson Falls, New York, Tiffani Musial of LaPorte, Indiana, Ariel Edmonson of Centralia, Illinois and Ashton Musial of Centralia, Illinois and her great-nephew, Michael A. Carr of Watervliedt, New York.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, grand-parents and special great-niece, Carrie Lynn Kavanaugh.

Helen graduated with the Centralia Township High School's “Class of 1952” and enjoyed the luncheon get togethers with her classmates in recent years. She worked in insurance claims with General Adjustment Company for several years before becoming a secretary for the Livesay-Hudson Insurance Agency, now known as Hudson-Gray Insurance Agency, for 39 years.

Helen loved music and attended many concerts in which her sister, Judy, played French Horn. She was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Centralia, Illinois, where she was a member of the church choir for 68 years. She also sang in the Centralia Cultural Society Chorus for many years, appearing in many of the Bob Cover musicals. She was a member of the ERM Society ladies group of St. Peter United Church of Christ.

Helen loved to travel, enjoying cruises to the Carribean, Panama Canal and Alaska, as well as traveling to many historic places in the United States. She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers.  Over the years, her various cats and dog, Toni, had a special place in her heart. She lived most of her life in Centralia, Illinois.

A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Mr. Jim White officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, Illinois. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's memory to the Greater St. Louis Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, Centralia Humane Society or Charity of Donor's choice and will be received at the Moran Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois.
