Jim and I remember Uncle Herman for his fun and generosity when we were boys. When our town of Hoffman began a Khoury league baseball team (ages 9-11), Uncle Herman bought a first baseman's glove and fungo for our team. He was one of our first baseball coaches. He had an enthusiasm and love for the game of baseball.
I remember when Uncle Herman rolled up at our house (Grandpa Holle's house) with his new 1956 two-tone Chevy Impala. The two tones were white on top with a vivid yellow-green bottom. Very youthful with pizazz.
Jim and I didn't often see Uncle Herman run, so we lovingly challenged him with "I bet you couldn't catch us." We were in the alley and totally surprised us by quickly overtaking us!
I'm thankful Uncle Herman was around when Pam, Jim and I were young tykes since I'm pretty sure some of the photos were taken by Herman. He's holding me on one photo when I was a baby.
Aunt Margie and Uncle Herman were generous to open up their home at the gas plant to Jim and I when we were in high school to watch the Illinois high school "March Madness" tournament games at their house. Our TV couldn't pick up the games but their TV could.
Uncle Herman was a good storyteller as well! A few years ago, he told me several stories about my uncle Bob Roeckeman that made me laugh!
So for Jim and me, our lives were enriched by uncle Herman.
